Force testing is a legal requirement for many automated gates, especially on residential buildings of multiple occupancy. While the motors themselves are relatively low voltage, the effect of the hinging and leverage can produce colossal forces near the fulcrum. In the past this has led to tragic consequences, and regulations designed to prevent any repeat of this are in force: specifically BS EN 12453:2001.
The HSE recommends that all forces should be periodically checked on electric gates as part of a routine maintenance programme. If any of the readings measured are above the standard, then the gate has failed its force test, and needs to be repaired or altered before it can be used again.
By force testing your electric gates, you can help prevent accidents, and prove that you are maintaining your gates responsibly. All the gates that Alpha Security Systems install are rigorously force tested.
